Fashion and Pantone 2017

Another year is approaching us and it’s time to focus on what’s important: Pantone’s new Color of the Year. Last year saw two colors, Rose Quartz and Serenity, chosen to enhance the feelings of tranquility and peace. This year’s color, Greenery, is all about revival and energy from nature. As a lover of nature and a supporter of making more sustainable choices, I’m instantly a fan of this color, and it’s not just the meaning behind it. This shade of green isn’t dark and heavy like forest green or bright like the yellow-green of an apple, but it still seems vibrant and deep. Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, says it best: “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose.” A few selections I’ve found from Braintree Clothing, Passion Lilie, Fashion ComPassion, and Fortress of Inca show just how much fashion is committing to this color and its purpose. Fashion and Pantone 2016

With the beginning of a New Year means one important thing. I’m not talking about the resolutions you’ve set for the year or the celebrations this past weekend for New Year’s Eve, instead I’m referring to Pantone’s latest announcement of the Colors of the Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity. If you’re a designer or appreciate the meaning behind design, you’ll understand my excitement in finding the purpose behind these choices. Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s Executive Director, illustrates that the deeper meaning of these selections is to create a sense of order and peace through Rose Quartz’s warmth and Serenity’s tranquil tone. Curious about these colors, I’ve done a quick search to find how sustainable and ethical fashion companies have taken on these hues. To my delight, I discovered a wealth of possibilities from around the world and have included my favorites from NOVICA, Faire Collection, Passion Lillie, People Tree, Indego Africa, and Braintree Clothing. Springing Into Pantone 2015

Today is a day most celebrate, ready to welcome warm weather and the rebirth that the first day of Spring brings with it.  But this isn’t just a day about the weather, it’s about welcoming the latest Spring Pantone colors for 2015 I found on Polyvore.  Fashionistas will no doubt know the meaning of this, but some will see it as a frivolous, fleeting thought.  After all, how much thought do you put into purchasing the latest colors of the season?  Having taken Graphic Design classes, I’ve enjoyed digging into the Pantone encyclopedia of colors with everything from Mustard Yellow to Lavender to Aquamarine.  What is so intriguing about colors?  Why should I care about them so much?  I have many questions to answer about Spring and Summer plans, so why could I be bothered by colors? Like the winter storms that have been raging in the East and ones that will be developing in the South, my mind has the same onset of excitement and uncertainty.  Searching through my cording to find the perfect match to the Pantone sets, I’m left with wonder and confusion of my chosen path of creativity.
