My Fashion Love Stories

It’s official: this may be one of the best weeks ever!  Why is that?  Because this week has both Earth Day and Fashion Revolution Day!  To start out Fashion Revolution Week, I’m not only encouraging my readers to post pictures of themselves wearing their clothes inside out with the hashtag #whomademyclothes, but I’m also finding a way to show my closet some much deserved appreciation.  Certain clothing and accessory pieces in my wardrobe have become essential to my style throughout the years and to show how much I treasure them, I’m sharing some love letters and poems written to them.  Want to join in?  Then let me inspire you with some examples of my own and show you how to participate in Fashion Revolution Week’s love stories.

Flower Coat Love Letter

Flower Coat (L)

Dear Flower Coat,

When I found you in a crowded shelf surrounded by others just like you in multiple sizes, one thing was clear: I knew I would love you.  Your colorful retro flower print and vintage style flatter my figure in every way possible, not many other coats could achieve the same effects.  With princess seams and pockets at the hip, I knew you’d be the perfect fit.  Your cloth-covered buttons only made me desire you more.

You saw me through chilly spring mornings, cool summer evenings and sometimes even early in the fall seasons when leaves were turning burnt orange or amber.  When your lining had holes, I repaired them with patches.  When your sleeve hem lining began to fray, I added bias tape to save you from being tossed out.  I’ll always find ways to keep you as a part of my life, even if it means you have to be re-purposed or recycled into something else.

Love always,

Looking at clothing through a creative lens can show you just how much clothing influences and inspires a different perspective on what we wear and how we wear it.  In addition to asking #whomademyclothes on social media, use this week to show your clothes a little love.  Whether that means repairing them or writing them a devoted love letter, you may be encouraged to love your clothes this week and beyond.  To share your letters and creative works, visit Fashion Revolution’s guidelines for photos, videos and writing.
