February 2017 Affirmations

Like most months, February is known for certain ideals. January is known for changes and new developments, and as I’ve found in the past, sticking to changes and improvements isn’t always easy. It can seem even harder when the goals are meant for sustainability. This year, however, I’ve decided to make a change by setting goals that allow me to take steps towards sustainability one at a time. As I mentioned last month, accomplishing goals can seem overwhelming at times, which is why I’ve decided to set affirmations instead. Having completed January, I’m looking forward to what’s next for February. However, before I jump in, here are a few moments and highlights from last month’s affirmation: I am a person who develops and maintains healthy relationships.

Starting my second semester of graduate school, I had moments of uncertainty, but I began this month with a sense of sustaining positive relationships at work and school while maintaining a relationship with myself. I’m definitely prone to overworking myself and spending more time on tasks and forgetting to relax. With this new affirmation in place, I was determined to make sure I extended it to the relationship with myself. This meant that sometimes I had to put down my homework, take a bubble bath, and finishing reading for school another time.

Taking care of myself also meant taking care of relationships with others, whether it’s family, friends, or my classmates. Making phone calls and reaching out to those I hadn’t heard from in a long time made a difference in refocusing my thoughts. Also, building connections with my classmates proved to be beneficial. I have learned that in any learning situation, not everyone may agree with one another or approach a class project the same way, but you can still find a way to get along. I also found that determining opportunities to thank co-workers through work activities and events are just as important.

So, what’s my affirmation for this month?

February: I am a person who purchases eco-friendly cleaning supplies or makes their own.

Taking on this goal has been on mind for a long time, especially after I attempted to make my own shampoo and conditioner. Although I struggled to find a good mix of ingredients for beauty products, this hasn’t stopped me from thinking about giving it another shot. Searching on the internet and Pinterest, I’ve found there are many options for making your own cleaning supplies and it has made me eager to get started. As I continue to work on sustaining healthy and positive relationships, I can build a relationship with the environment by selecting more eco-friendly products.

Good for you, Brooke! I have tried to buy products with more healthy ingredients, but I’ve never researched making my own cleaning products. That’s a great idea. You are inspiring!

But a great reminder, Thank you for sharing at Sweet Inspiration! Happy Sunday

What eco-friendly products do you suggest purchasing? I’m always curious to find more, even if I am making my own. 🙂
