Comment on Plastic-Free July: Final Week by Kim H. Sister Francis wondered why i had plastic utensils in my silverware drawer. I just use them when eating things like yogurt or light snacks, packed lunches, etc. It’s difficult to be perfect about everything. It’s important to not guilt ourselves when we are conscientious about doing good things and fall short. There are many worse things we could fail at doing.

Straws can be pesky. I find the only way I avoid them is when I get the drink myself or telling the waiter or waitress that I prefer not to have a straw, but you do have to be conscious of it to catch it before it happens!

I find keeping a metal knife, fork and spoon wrapped in a cloth napkin in my handbag, really helps me to avoid plastic cutlery when eating out. Of course plates are more difficult.
I also find it’s really hard to avoid straws and napkins when ordering drinks, particularly in the U.S. I haven’t quite got into the habit of asking for them without.

I have not been and it’s on my list too.
